6 January 1906 - The Clarence Sun

Dr. Isaiah Williams was born in Delaware county, Ohio, May 13, 1820, and died at his residence in Clarence, Iowa, Jan. 7, 1906. He was married to Savina L. Fagle in the year 1861. With his wife and three daughters and one son he moved from Ohio to Clarence, Iowa, in the year 1869, where he has lived ever since. When a young man he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. He was a zealous Christian minister in his early life, but on account of failing health he gave up the ministry and studied medicine and graduated in the Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1851. He followed the practice of medicine and dentistry most of his life. About twenty-five years ago he took up the study of law and was admitted to the bar. He was a great reader, a lover of good books, and a well posted man in Science, Philosophy, History and the current events. In every reform he was interested and was frequently a leader. In the temperance work he was outspoken, fearless and brave. He was a total abstainer from the use of liquor and tobacco all his life. As a father he was fond of his children and careful in their training. For thirty-six years he has been a citizen of Clarence, kind and generous to all. The funeral service was held in the M.E. church, Jan 9th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. J. Locke, assisted by Rev. D. M. Ogilvie, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
