5 July 1906 - The Clarence Sun

Joachim Pruess was born in Bedlow, near Rahms, Germany, August 2, 1857, and after living in this vicinity five years moved to a farm in Kiowa county, Kansas. He remained in that state till 1895 when he returned to Iowa and lived here till his death.

He was married to Doris Mueller in 1884. To this union were born seven children, five of whom (four sons and a daughter) survive, together with the widow.

Last December the deceased was the victim of a severe stroke of parlysis, from which he finally recovered, although it affected him to such a degree that he was afterward not as strong as usual, neither mentally nor physically. Last Friday evening, June 29, he had another attack, so severe that he died a short time afterward--at 10:00 o'clock--aged 48 years, 10 months and 26 days.

The funeral was held at the German church Monday noon, Rev. C. Schulmeistrat conducting the services. It was largely attended by the relatives and many friends of the deceased. Interment followed in the German cemetery.

Although generally known that he was not in the best of health, the news Saturday morning that the deceased had died suddenly was an unpleasant surprise to all who knew him. He was a kind husband and father, an esteemed friend and a good neighbor, and will be missed by many.
