27 March 1902 - The Clarence Sun

Died - Last Saturday Drs. Fairchild of Clinton and Dr. Smith of Clarence operated on Miss Lena Sonnemaker, the fifteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Sonnemaker, who reside six miles northwest of Clarence. The operation was for appendicitis and abcess of the kidney. She withstood the operation very well and seemed to be improving nicely until yesterday when her condition took a change for the worse. She died this morning. The funeral will be held on Saturday at the house at 10 a.m. and at the German Evangelical church at 12 o'clock.

Carolina Marie Sonnemaker, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Sonnemaker northwest of town, at midnight Wednesday, March 26th, aged 15 years and 5 days.

After attending the Parochial school of the German Evangelical church for two winters, Lena was happily looking forward to the ecelesiastical examination and confirmation according to the rites of the church; but three weeks ago she went home not feeling well, and rapidly grew worse, when after consultation of physicians it was deemed necessary to perform an operation which was done Saturday, March 22, and for some days it seemed that she would survive, but with all that medical aid, loving care and undivided attention could do, she passed to the great beyond as above stated.

The funeral services by Rev. John Herrmann, were held at the German church Saturday, March 29th, with interment at the German cemetery, the remains being followed to the grave by a large number of relatives and friends.

The deceased leaves a father, mother, four brothers and three sisters, besides other relatives to mourn her untimely death.

The family has the sincere sympathy of everyone in the death of this dear one.
