25 October 1894 - The Tipton Advertiser

Drayton Rayes Gunsolus was born in Montgomery county, New York, Sept. 28, 1848, making him forty-nine years and eighteen days old at the time of his death.

His mother died when he was ten days old and Dr. Strang, the family physician, took him with his own boy until he was twenty months old when his father married the mother known here.

In the year 1854 he came to Iowa with his parents, brother and little sister. The sister died and left an ache in the heart of her mother which only ceased with death.

They lived the life of hard working, thrifty farmers, the boys succeeding the father and living so near that each day saw them meet for thirty-six years. The opportunity was given him to go to California and he went four years ago returning this third time to see his sick brother. His brother had ulcer of the stomach and stranger than romance he was afflicted the same way. When they separated two weeks ago he was cheerful and seemed to feel quite well, but while his brother is better he is gone.

He was married to Emma A. Dugan Oct. 15, 1867. They lived together ten years, she dying after a lingering illness and left him with two children George and Mary Agnes. November 25, 1879 he married Miss Maria Bunker, of Tipton, Iowa. She also had two children, Freddie who died at 8 months and Mabel who lives to comfort and care for her mother. He led a busy life and leaves to the family and friends the rememberance of a warm, sympathetic, generous nature.
