28 October 1897 - The Tipton Advertiser

Tuesday evening, about 7 o'clock, as Geo. Barnes was crossing the railroad at Clarence, he noticed the body of a man near the track. His head was covered with blood and, though still breathing, it was evident that the man was fatally hurt. Help was hastily summoned and he was carried to the depot and Doctors Anderson and Gregg summoned. It was not until the man's face had been washed that the victim of the accident was recognized as Roy Dean, a young butcher of that place. About 9 o'clock he died.

The exact manner in which the man met his death is unknown. About 6:30 o'clock he started to care for his horses, which were kept north of the track. It is supposed that he became confused by trains passing in opposite directions and stepped out of the way of one only to meet death from the other. He had been married only a few months and his sudden and untimely death is a sad blow to the young wife.
