20 July 1917 - The Tipton Advertiser

A telegram was received Tuesday by M. H. Miller from E. Collins who is at Hibbing Minn. stating that Roy Davis had been drowned and that the body would be sent home for burial. The message contained no information as to the cause or manner of the accident and no word has been received since.

The body came yesterday afternoon and the funeral was held today at the home of his mother Mrs. Joshua Davis in Red Oak.

Roy Davis was born and reared in Red Oak and was 24 years of age. He was a bright, industrious young man of promise and his untimely death has caused sorrow to all who knew him. For two or three years he was employed on the Clare Miler farm but went to northern Minnesota last spring where he purchased eighty acres of land and started to clear and improve it.
