4 May 1871 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED--In Tipton, April 2d, 1871, of congestion of the brain and lungs, DANIEL DAVIS, aged sixty-one years.

This notice of death of one of the very early settlers of Cedar county appears so late a date through an inadvertence that can only be partly atoned for by its present publication. Mr. Davis was born in Vermont; at an early age he removed with his parents to Ohio; and had at the time of his death been a resident of Iowa thirty-one years, twenty-nine of which had been spent in Tipton and vicinity, Rockingham, Scott county, having been his first home in the State. He was a man of some peculiarities of character, and possessed of many sterling good qualities. Uncompromisingly honest, he hated injustice and oppression wherever recognized, and became an ardent free-soiler as early as the Kansas troubles. He was a good citizen and a good neighbor; one who attended to his own business, and that fully and promptly.
