Frederick Berckhemer was born in Esslingen, Kingdom Wartenberg, Germany, Feb. 2nd, 1841, came to Salem, Ohio when he was 14 years old and was married in the Fall of 1861 to Esther Bruff Baldwin. To this union was born five children, Mrs. J. G. Preston of Superior, Nebraska, Mrs. C. E. Hoover of Friendswood, Texas, Thos. F. Beckhemer of Galveton, Tex. and Curtis C. and Theodore G. Berckhemer, deceased.

The deceased was at one time a resident of West Branch also lived at West Liberty where he has many friends who will note with regret his demise. He was a veteran of the Civil war serving 3 years in Co. G 104th infantry and about a year as company mail clerk. After being discharged he was a mail clerk running between Omaha and West Liberty for twenty five years. After leaving the mail service he retired from active life spending some years in Texas then going to Omaha where he has lived the past year and a half and where he died at Nicholas Senn hospital Feb. 1, 1920 lacking one day of being 79 years old.

He was a life long member of the M. E. church, he was also a member of the G.A.R., Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges.

Funeral service was held in the M. E. church here Wednesday at 10:30 Rev. W. Glenn Rowley spoke from the words found in Psalms 90:12. Interment in local cemetery.
