5 February 1920 - The West Branch Times

Susan L. Gibbs was born in Morgan county, Ohio, December 4, 1839, and after toiling in "life's dusty way" for almost four score years she went peacefully to meet her Pilot. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Wilson, January 30, 1920. As a child she came to Illinois in 1848, and in this state grew to womanhood. March 23, 1867, she was united in marriage with Lindly H. Embree and they came on west to the prairies the following year and located in West Branch. Five children came to bless this home. Three of the children, Margaret A. Jackson, Mary L. and Jeptha having preceeded their mother in death. The two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Wilson and Mrs. Minnie Browning, both reside in West Branch. Besides the two daughters there are the husband, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who mourn their loss.

When the home was first established in this community, Mrs. Embree united with the Methodist church and her church home has been in Springdale. Her pastor came to see her frequently and found her one who knew the fellowship of the greatest of all, even our Christ. She loved the great hymns and it has only been a few days since we sang a number of them for her, but now she knows what the new song is that shall be in the heart of all who keep the faith.

The funeral service was conducted from the Wilson home Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1, and interment was in the beautiful West Branch cemetery. The pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. W. Glenn Rowley, conducted the service.
