G. A. Bass, one of the early settlers of the county, died yesterday morning after an illness of only a few days. The funeral service will be held at Bennett next Sunday at 11 a.m. The deceased was well known in the county having resided here about 42 years. He was born in Orange county, Vermont in 1826 and came to Scott county Iowa in 1857. A few years later he came to Tipton where he lived nearly five years. He served with the union army during the war of the rebellion and was with General Sherman's army in the famous march to the sea. As a farmer and business man he possessed exceptional ability and accumulated a large fortune.
