29 January 1890 - The Tipton Conservative

In Memoriam,

Miss Mary L., daughter of Mr. Wm. and Mrs. J. J. Bagley, died in Des Moines, Iowa, Jan 3d, 1890, in her 22d year. The Final cause was heart disease. She had been a sufferer for a year or more with rheumatism and heart disease. She was well known to many of the readers of your paper in this place, where she resided nearly two years prior to going back to Iowa last spring. This removal was by the advise of her physician, who said she could not get well in the altitude. Hence she and her mother returned to friends in Tipton, Iowa, and afterwards to Des Moines. Her father remained here to take care of business and property and then went to Denver to labor in order to earn means to supply the wants and necessities of his afflicted daughter. He was summoned from Denver by telegram to the death bed of his daughter but she had passed away by the time the dispatch reached him. He was permitted to attend her funeral on Monday, the 6th. He received as her last and dying momento written with trembling hand her autograph: "You afflicted daughter, Mary L. Bagley." Mary was a lovely Christian, and at the time of her death was a consistent and beloved member of the Presbyterian church at Akron, Colo. She was converted and united with the church in Iowa when in childhood only ten years ago.
