Lazarus H. Andre died at his home in Mechanicsville, Iowa on January 29, 1936, following a lingering illness. He was born in Westmorland county, Pa. on May 13, 1844, the son of Thomas and Mary Andre. In 1845 the family came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Mechanicsville. Mr. Andre spent his boyhood and attended school near what is now known as the Valley Chapel school.

On October 13, 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Alwida Wilson of Mechanicsville and they located on a farm northeast of town, where they remained until 1904, at which time they retired and came to Mechanicsville. His wife and one son Georgia, preceded him in death.

Mr. Andre was the oldest member of Patmos lodge No. 144 A.F. & A.M. of Mechanicsville which he joined in 1867. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons, the Apollo Commandary Knights Templar and the El Kahir temple of Mystic Shrine of Cedar Rapids. He was the oldest member of the St. Augustine Tourist club. Mr. Andre was a zealous pioneer and prospector, a man who observed the designs upon the trestle-board and took up his working tools in pursuit of truth, friendship, morality and brotherly love.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clara Burroughs of Mechanicsville, two sons, Lee H. of Marshalltown and Charles T. at home, three grandchildren and one great grand child, and a brother, William, of Lisbon, Iowa.
