13 November 1862 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED, on the 10th of November, 1862, at her father's residence, Miss Susan M. Culbertson; aged eighteen years.

Susan spent her whole life in Tipton. She had a large circle of friends, who were fondly attached to her, but the affection of loved ones could not stay the hand of death. If the most watchful attention and kindest care could have prevented, Susan had not died. Gradually she wasted away under the influence of that terrible disease, Consumption, until the summons came that called her away. Then peacefully and quietly as one goes to sleep, she left the world.

She consecrated herself to Christ about five years ago. In the early part of her illness she seemed to cling fondly to life, but she retained her trust in her Redeemer, and when she saw that she must die she bowed in submission to the will of God. "I am ready to die. I know I am going to a better world. I only go before, you will soon follow. I am happy, very happy. Meet me in heaven." Such were some of her last words to her weeping friends.

Truly she died as the Christian dies.
"Who, who would live always, away from his God;
Away from yon heaven, that blissful abode,
Where rivers of pleasure flow bright o'er the plains,
And the noontide of glory eternally reigns?
