J. W. Cuniff, lately deceased, was born in Iowa township, Cedar county, Iowa, Oct. 16, 1868, and when old enough worked on the farm until the fall of 1890, when being out of health and by his doctor's advice he went east to the sea coast, Baltimore and other places. Recovering somewhat he came back to Chicago and worked for his uncle. On June 14, 1889 he was married to Helen Hayes of West Liberty and to them two children have been born.

He died Feb. 25, at the age of 35 years 4 months and 9 days of hemorrhage of the stomach. His life has been moral, sober and industrious. He leaves two little children who will never know their father. He was a kind husband, obedient and dutiful son and affectionate brother and a man beloved by all his acquaintances. He was a devout and practical Catholic. He leaves a loving wife, two children, six brothers, three sisters and a host of acquaintances to mourn the loss of one who was dear to all. May his soul rest in peace.
