Ed Cosgriff, widely known and highly esteemed pioneer resident of Cedar county, passed away at the age of 75 years Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at his home in Clarence, Ia.

He had been a life-long resident of the community, his death following an illness of two weeks, which developed into pneumonia.

Mr. Cosgriff was born in Tipton, November 21st, 1859, and while he was still a child his family moved to a farm two miles south of Clarence, where the home was made until 1920 when the decedent retired to Clarence. He was educated in the Harmony Point and Clarence public schools.

In 1889 he married Frances Flansburg, whose death occurred one year later following the birth of their son Clifford. He married Mary Scanlon January 21, 1903, and to this union was born one daughter, Alice.

Mr. Cosgriff was for a time county supervisor and was a member and former president of the Cedar county fair association. He had been an official of the Clarence Savings bank since 1905 and in recent years had been vice-president. He was known throughout the state as a breeder of fine Shorthorn cattle, until his retirement in 1920. He was prominent in the civic and political affairs of the county and his home community.

Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Alice of Clarence; a son, H. C. of Austin, Minn.; a sister, Mary of Clarence; a brother, Will of Tipton; a granddaughter, Elizabeth of Ames.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 o'clock A.M. Tuesday at the St. Mary's church in Mechanicsville, the Rev. Frencken officiating.

Interment was in the cemetery at Clarence, Ia.
