11 December 1862 - The Tipton Advertiser

Died, On the 4th day of December, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. J. L. Bradshaw, in Tipton, Iowa, Mr. Zenas Condit, aged eighty years.

Mr. Condit was a native of New Jersey. When about twenty-one years of age he went to Pennsylvania, where he lived until six years ago he came to Iowa. For over forty years he was a member of the Presbyterian church. He had been confined to his bed about two years in consequence of an injury received, and though a very great sufferer, he was never known to complain. He was remarkably patient and cheerful, and oft times would begin to sing in the midst of extreme pain. A favorite verse and one that he often repeated, was:
"Jesus my God, I know his name,
His name is all my trust:
He will not put my soul to shame,
Nor let my hope be lost."

With this unshaken confidence in Christ, he passed away. May his children and grand children follow him as he followed the Savior.
