Thompson C. Moffit, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Moffit was born in Philadelphia, Pa. July 29, 1880. At the age of two he came to Iowa with his parents. Here he spent the early years of his life in Fairfield and Red Oak townships.

He attended school at Clarence after which he continued his education at Iowa State college at Ames. For a time he taught in the country schools.

On June 25, 1913, he was united in marriage with Mary Edith Wilson at LeClaire, Iowa. To this union eight children, 6 daughters and 2 sons, were born.

Mr. Moffit was a well known and highly respected citizen of the Tipton community. He was civic minded and gave freely of his time and energy in several different capacities. He served as a member of the Tipton Consolidated school board for a period of 16 years. He was county auditor for 6 years after which time he served as postmaster for 16 years. He was a member of Cedar Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 11

As a member of the Methodist church he served for many years as secretary of the Sunday school. Tho unable to attend the church services because of illness the last years of his life, he was always actively interested.

One of his sons, Duane, lost his life at sea in World War II. Those remain to mourn his passing are: his wife, Mrs. Mary Edith Moffit; his daughters, Mary, Mrs. Robert Murrison of Cedar Rapids; Margaret, Mrs. Ray Hansen of Lake Park, Minnesota; Virginia, Mrs. Joe Sherman of Alexandria, Virginia; Winifred, Mrs. Robert Seiter of Rock Island, Ill.; Jeanette, Mrs. George Knabe, of Dayton, Ohio; and Jean Moffit of Iowa City; also one son, T. C. Jr. of Independence, Iowa, and seven grandchildren; 3 brothers, Frank and James Moffit of Stanwood,, Iowa, and Robert Moffit of Elgin, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Bagley of Los Angeles, Cal.; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at the Tipton Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, May 25th, at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. A. C. Long officiating. Interment was in Tipton Masonic cemetery. The Sheets & Dahn funeral home had charge of the final services.
