13 October 1932 - The Tipton Advertiser

Nelson J. Domer was born June 27, 1853 near Berlin, Somerset County, Penn., and passed away at home in Springdale, Iowa, at 5 a.m. Sunday, September 25, 1932, having attained the age of 79 years, 2 months and 28 days.

He left Pennsylvania when a young man and located at Dixon, Ill., where he met Mary Troutman. They were united in marriage October 24, 1877. In a few months they moved to the vicinity of Tipton, Iowa, living there until the year 1904 when they moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, residing there two years after which they settled in their present home. To this union were born seven children, Eugene of Clarence, Charles of LeClaire, Anna Flansburg, deceased, William of LeClaire, Ruby Parr of Springdale, Robert of Stanwood and Laura Phelps of Mechanicsville.

His eldest daughter, Anna, preceded him in death March 2, 1904, leaving an infant daughter, Vivian, now Mrs. Henry Johnson of Cedar Rapids who made her home with her grandparents until her marriage.

There are left to mourn his departure his wife, who has been his constant companion, six children, seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Had his life been spared until Oct. 24th, they would have spent 55 years of wedded life together, having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1927.

Mr. Domer was a faithful member of the M. E. church and was always active in church work, singing in the choir and doing everything he could for the cause of Christ. He always enjoyed the Sunday school and attended as long as his health permitted. He was interested in all activities of the neighborhood and was always ready to help in any way he could for the betterment of the community. He will be greatly missed in Springdale but in his home circle more than any place else. He was a very affectionate father, and always enjoyed having his family all together and visiting them in their different homes. He has gone where there is no more suffering and we could not wish him back but his memory will linger forever.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Springdale at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. M. Grant. The pallbearers were six grandsons, William, Leroy, Johnnie, Donald, Archie and Earl Domer. Burial was made in the Springdale cemetery.
