Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Miller, was born in West Troy, N. Y., Sept. 14, 1848. She came to Tipton with her parents when a small child and in this community her life was lived. She was united in marriage to Israel McLain Sept. 12, 1887, who preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1924. To this union one child was born, Edgar L. McLain of Chicago, Ill. She was also a mother to the following children: F. W. McLain and Mrs. Elizabeth Burgess of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Mrs. Alice Hamor of Tipton, Mrs. E. M. Allman of Michigan City, Ind.; Mrs. Herbert L. Cogswell of Ottumwa, Ia., Charles C. McLain of Sioux Rapids, Ia. Also an aged sister Mrs. Tillie Glenn of El Paso, Tex. survives her.

Mrs. McLain passed away April 26, after an illness of five months and funeral services were held from St. Mary's church Friday morning, April 29, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery.

Those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral services were: Mr. and James Burgess, F. M. McLain and Mrs. Arthur Marchal of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Cogsell of Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. John Goslin of Beloit, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hatch of George, Ia.
