8 January 1920 - The West Branch Times

A telegram from Oklahoma City today brought sad news that will come as a severe shock to the many friends of Dr. Laura H. Branson here.

Dr. Branson passed away on New Year's day at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lafayette D. Mitchell, Oklahoma City, where Dr. Branson and her husband were spending the winter. Mrs. Branson's death came after a brief illness.

The telegram, received here from the grief stricken husband, Dr. L. L. Branson, a well-known dentist of this city, said that interment would probably be made at Oklahoma City.

The nature of the fatal malady was not disclosed.

Mrs. Branson was one of the most prominent women physicians of the Middle West and was a leader in medical societies of the state and west. She was a graduate of the University college of medicine, class of '85; received her B.S. degree here in 1901 and her M.S. in 1902.

She was a leader in business and professional circles of the city, a woman of rare culture and possessed a wide circle of friends, who will tender sincere sympathy to the bereaved husband and daughter, who survive. -- Iowa City Press, Jan. 2, 1920.

Dr. Branson was a resident of West Branch for a number of years and the news of her death will deeply grieve the many friends who knew and loved her.
