Memorial services for Mr. Alex Buchanan are to be held at the Tipton Presbyterian Church, Thursday afternoon June 16th, at 3:30 o'clock with Rev. Raymon Ferguson of Tipton and Rev. Louis P. Penningroth of Iowa City officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Mechanicsville where Cedar Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Tipton will conduct the ritualistic service of the Order.

Mr. Buchanan was born in Linn township, Cedar county, August 4th, 1883 and passed away at St. Luke's hospital at Cedar Rapids, Tuesday June 14th after a brief illness. He was married to Vera Bleasdale on September 19, 1908, and spent many years in farming on the Buchanan homestead. After retirement from the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan operated the Tipton Hotel. In the years since his wife's death in 1946 Mr. Buchanan has made his home with his daughter Mrs. Ralph Gaul, spending the winter months in Florida.

He served on the board of Collateral Inheritance Tax Appraisers in the county from 1936 to the present time, and was associated with the Gaul Motor Co. He was a member of Cedar Lodge No. 11 in Tipton, Evangeline Chapter O.E.S. of Mechanicsville, and the New Olivet Presbyterian church.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Gaul (Martha) of Tipton; Mrs. C. J. Whipple (Dorothy) of Iowa City; Mrs. E. J. Melcher (Velma) of Des Moines, and Mrs. O. R. Miller (Marjorie) of Colorado Springs; two sons, Alex of Cedar Falls and Bert of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Coe Hering of Mechanicsville, and Mrs. May Herring of Marysville, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren. Two daughters passed away in infancy, and one son, Paul, pilot in the U. S. Air Force was killed in action in World War II.
