Karl Fauth, eldest son of Friedrich and Rosina Fauth, was born December 1, 1873, at Neuenberg, in the province of Wuertemberg, Germany. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed at Oberndorf in 1887.

He served one year as a florist's apprentice, and then came to America where he entered Elmhurst College, graduating in 1892. His theological training was received at Eden Seminary and he was ordained at Keokuk, Iowa, July 14, 1895.

On September 29, 1896, he was married to Miss Pauline Hils in St. Paul's Evangelical church at Keokuk, and they made their home at Troy, Mo.

After a four year pastorate at Troy the Rev. Mr. Fauth served at Donnellson, Ia., from 1900 to 1907; at Westside, Ia., from 1907 to 1917, and at Clarence from 1917 to 1940.

He also served the Iowa District of the Evangelical Church as secretary for ten years, vice president for four years and as president for three years. He was a member of the denominational budget board for eight years and served a term as a member of the board of directors of Elmhurst College.

In 1940 he retired from the active ministry, and since then has made his home with his son Robert, first at Waverly and for the past year at Tripoli. In July of this year he observed the 50th anniversary of his ordination.

He had been in failing health for some time, and his condition became serious last Wednesday while visiting relatives at Keokuk. After three days in the hospital at Keokuk, he was moved to the Waverly hospital, where he passed away Monday evening, Aug. 6th, 1945. He had reached the age of 71 years, 8 months and 5 days.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulina, in 1919, a son, Dr. Karl Fauth, of Wellsburg, in 1934 and his wife in 1939.

He is survived by a son, Rev. Robert Fauth, of Tripoli; three grandchildren, Patricia and Barbara Fauth of Minneapolis, and Marcia Ann Fauth of Tripoli; also by two brothers and a sister in Germany.

Funeral services were held from St. John's Evangelical church at Clarence on Wednesday, August 8th, with Rev. F. J. Mittler in charge of the service. Previous to this, prayer services were held in St. Peter's Evangelical church at Tripoli with Rev. P. Kitterer in charge. Interment was made in St. John's cemetery at Clarence.

In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Carl Moir, Mrs. Raymond Doermann and Mrs. D. Beck. Casket bearers were: Paul Hartwig, Ernest Hasselbusch, Henry Conrad, Hans Klatt, Raymond Doermann and Grover Penningroth.

Other ministers assisting in the services were the Rev. F. J. Abele of Lowden, A. Schemmer and J. Buescher of Burlington, J. Newgard of Wilton, C. H. Koehler of Wheatland. Also in attendance were the Revs. R. Winkelmann and J. Mauch of Waverly, P. Vonder Ohe of Nashua, F. Schnathorst of Denver, P. Kitterer of Elkader, E. Schneider of Donnellson, A. Bergey of Primrose, P. Eisen of Bennett, T. Baur of West Burlington and J. Flottmann of Sumner.
