12 July 1945 - The Clarence Sun

John Fletcher Boling, son of John N. and Harriet Hoyman Boling, was born Dec. 2, 1869, on a farm six miles northwest of Clarence.

As a boy, he moved with his parents to Stanwood, where he grew to manhood and lived most of his business life.

He received his education in the country school in Stanwood and in Cornell college.

In 1904, he was united in marriage to Louise Webb of Clarence. For 35 years they made their home in Stanwood. They lived in Olin three years and about a year ago moved to Clarence, planning to retire and make it their final home.

He has been a member of the Methodist church since 1904 and was active on the board of that church for many years.

He had known since February that he was spending his last days on earth and his faith and trust in God, that all was well, helped sustain him through the months of sickness and suffering.

He was a member of Freemont Lodge No. 616, A.F.& A.M., at Stanwood.

For years he was a leading auctioneer in this vicinity and the many personal calls and letters received during his last illness, brought much comfort to both him and his wife.

He will long be remembered for his warm greeting and friendly smile.

Besides his wife, he leaves one sister, Mrs. Nellie Anthony, of Stanwood, several nieces and nephews and a host of personal friends.

The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church and was conducted by Reverend Bernard Kemper, assisted by Reverend Eyestone of Mt. Vernon. A male quartet sang. A wealth of floral offerings came from friends. Burial took place at the Clarence cemetery with the Masonic ceremony in charge of Freemont Lodge of Stanwood.

The attendance at the funeral was an indication of the high regard in which Mr. Boling was held by a wide circle of longtime friends who came from the large area in which he was best known.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral: F. M. Webb, Livingston, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Webb, Forrest City; Mrs. Nellie Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hoyman, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hoyman, Stanwood; Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hoyman, Isabelle Hoyman, Mrs. Harriette Wingerson, Ruth Heald, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bair, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. E. W. Childs, Martha Swem, Des Moines; besides a host of friends from Tipton, Stanwood, Olin, Lowden and Mechanicsville.
