Memorial services for Elma Carleton, sister of Mr. Sam Gordon, will be held at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home Thursday afternoon, Jan. 13, at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Valley Diltz, of Evanston, Ill.; one brother, Sam T. Gordon of Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carleton, who made her home with her brother, was reportedly preparing the noon meal on Monday, when her clothing became ignited while working about the gas stove. She was burned over three fourths of the surface of her body. She passed away at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Tuesday afternoon at 6:30 o'clock.

Elna Gordon Carleton, daughter of Joseph Franklin and Mary Gordon, was born at Durant, Iowa, Sept. 18, 1871, and departed this life Jan. 11, 1955 at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 23 days.

She was one of four children born to Joseph and Mary Gordon, two of whom preceded her in death. Sam, of Tipton, and Valey Virginia Diltz, of Evanston, Ill. remain.

She was badly burned on Monday, Jan. 10, and passed away at St. Mary's hospital in Iowa City on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1955, without again regaining consciousness.

For the past seven years she had been making her home with her brother Sam, in Tipton. She was for many years a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Wheatland, Iowa.

She leaves to mourn her departure, besides her brother and sister, two nephews, three nieces and a host of good neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 13, in charge of the Rev. Raymon Ferguson. Interment at Masonic cemetery at Tipton.
