24 May 1945 - The Clarence Sun

Henry F. Pruess, son of the late John and Marie Freitag Pruess, was born on a farm northeast of Clarence on February 20, 1891.

He was baptized in early infancy by the Rev. J. Schwarz, and on April 16, 1905, became a member of St. John's church by the rite of confirmation.

Rev. K. Fauth spoke the words which united him in the bonds of holy matrimony with Miss Emma Griem on Jan. 15, 1920. They were privileged to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary at their home on Jan. 15th of this year.

Mr. and Mrs. Pruess went to farming on the farm which has since then always been their home.

During World War I, Mr. Pruess served his country well and later, upon the organization of the local chapter, became a member of the American Legion.

Though he had been in failing health for the past several years, sometimes having been seriously ill, he had always been able to regain sufficiently to be up and about. It was only for the past week that his condition became serious and in spite of all that loving hands could do to help him regain his physical strength, God willed it otherwise and on Thursday evening at 11:40 called him into His eternal home, there to abide with Him forever.

Surviving his departure are his bereaved wife, Mrs. Emma Pruess; two children, Glenn and Gladys; two brothers, Arnold and Wilfred; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Doermann and Mrs. Julius Muhs, all of Clarence and vicinity; an aged aunt, Mrs. Marie Burmeister of Lowden; besides other more distant relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from St. John church on Sunday afternoon, May 20th, with interment in St. John's cemetery.

Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Mae Miller, Mrs. Myrtle Tacker, Mrs. Emma Bixler and Mrs. Irma Kelly.

Pallbearers were George Miller, Clarence Bixler, Henry Von Muenster, Paul Busching, Walter Ibsen and Wm. Lafrenz.

Those from out-of-town attending the Pruess funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer and Mrs. Lawrence Whitzel, of Hillsboro, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Standau, of Chicago, Mrs. Julius Mathies, of Gary, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Mayer and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Struck of Davenport.
