1 March 1945 - The Clarence Sun

Orville Henry George Pfettscher, oldest child and only son of John Pfettscher and his wife Ella, nee Dettmann, was born October 10, 1924, in Fairfield Twp., near Clarence where he has always made his home.

He was baptized Nov. 9, 1924, and confirmed April 10, 1938, by the Rev. K. Fauth. He graduated with honors from the Tipton high school with the class of 1942.

On June 1, 1944, Orville who had been suffering intensely with rheumatic fever, for almost two weeks at home, was taken to St. Luke's hospital at Cedar Rapids, where with the exception of a few weeks that he was privileged to be at home in October, he remained until the angel of death relieved him of his suffering on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 22nd. His age at the time of his departure from this life was 20 years, four months and twelve days.

In spite of his suffering, Orville's first thought was never about himself but always about others, never did he complain about himself. No better tribute can be paid him than to quote the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:12 for they seem to have been written about him "Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfast in prayer." Such was the life he lived; such was the suffering he endured and in that spirit he was prepared to give his life when the Master called.

He leaves to mourn his departure: His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pfettscher; one sister, Jeanette; his fiancée, Miss Betty Long of Tipton; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hy. Dettmann also of Tipton; numerous more distant relatives and a host of friends. Memorial gifts, in place of flowers, amounting to $46.25 were given in memory of the deceased.

Rejoice then ye sad hearted who sit in deepest gloom,
Who mourn o'er joys departed and tremble at your doom.
He who alone can cheer you, is standing at your door
He brings his pity near you and bids you weep no more.

Funeral services were held from the Pfettscher home and St. John's church on Sunday, Feb. 25th, with burial in the Clarence cemetery.

In charge of the flowers--Betty Long, Verna Lee Dircks.

Pallbearers--Dewey Dircks, LaVern Doermann, Wayne Goldsmith, Marvin Derynck, Elmer Lendt.
