12 December 1946 - The Clarence Sun

Charles Victor Sturdevant passed away Dec. 2, 1946, at his home, 240 North Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, Calif. A native of Mendota, Ill., he had been a resident of Pasadena 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence K. Sturdevant; one daughter, Mrs. Isabella C. Coleman; two sons, C. Victor Sturdevant, Jr., all of Pasadena, and Dr. Matt C. Sturdevant of Glendale; two granddaughters, Beverly Joan and Patricia Jean Sturdevant of Glendale; four grandsons, C. Victor Sturdevant III, of Santa Monica, Clayton R. Sturdevant and Dr. David R. Coleman of Pasadena, Dr. M. Sam Coleman of Glendale; also two great-granddaughters, Kathleen Lilya Coleman of Pasadena and Mary Margaret Sturdevant of Santa Monica. Funeral services were held Dec. 5th. Interment, Mountain View cemetery.

Arriving in Pasadena Christmas Day, 1886, at the age of 19, Mr. Sturdevant immediately sensed the possibilities of a great city and became a prime factor in its development. In September, 1887, he became a real estate salesman. Since that time he had been continuously in the real estate business, except for a few years spent in the Hawaiian Islands. He was one of the 26 charter members of the Pasadena Realty Board when it was formed in 1908, becoming its first secretary.

Born in Mendota, Ill., April 20, 1867, Mr. Sturdevant spent his boyhood at Clarence. He was the son of Dr. T. D. Sturdevant who at his death lacked only a few months of being an octogenarian. In the 1870's and 1880's Dr. Sturdevant, the father, practiced dentistry in Clarence.

Following a heart attack last June, Mr. Sturdevant had eased up on his business responsibilities but apparently was recovering. He passed quietly while taking an afternoon nap Monday at his home, 240 North Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena.
