17 October 1946 - The Clarence Sun

The remains of Mrs. Ella Chaffee Paul, 81 years old, were brought here on Tuesday afternoon from Oskaloosa and buried in the Clarence cemetery beside the remains of her husband, Rev. A. R. Paul. The lady died at the Mahaska hospital, Oskaloosa, on Sunday.

The Paul family was well known in Clarence at one time. Of the family known here there are none left. W. W. Paul was the father of Rev. A. R. Paul, Elmer Paul and Mrs. Frank Hanna. W. W. spent his time working around the Hanna store in order to have his time occupied.

Reverand Paul was for sixteen years pastor of the United Presbyterian church at Cedar Rapids. He then accepted a call to St. Louis and lived there six years until his death. Mrs. Paul then returned to Cedar Rapids. That was in 1920. In 1925 she went to Oskaloosa to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dayle Lyle.

Surviving besides Mrs. Lyle are a son, Donald, of Independence, a sister, Mrs. C. T. Brown of Dysart and a brother, Franklin M. Chaffee of West Los Angeles.

The funeral was held in Oskaloosa Tuesday morning after which the remains were brought to Clarence.
