Joseph W. Smith, 75, of 1712 Fifth avenue, San Rafael, Calif., passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. Walter K. Pearce Monday, November 5, 1951.

Mr. Smith was a native of Kentucky and was raised in the Clarence community. For a while he farmed north of Clarence on the place which is better known as the Glenn Kelly farm. After leaving the farm he and his wife Lelia, the former Lelia Ralston, lived in Cedar Rapids for several years. Upon moving to California they took up residence in Long Beach but after a time moved to San Rafael.

Mr. Smith leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Mrs. Lela Smith, a son Ralph W. Smith, a daughter Mrs. Walter K. Pearce and a sister, Mrs. Anna Tilford. He was also an uncle of Mrs. Ione Cashman.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 7th, at 9:15 a.m. from the Keaton mortuary, San Rafael, with interment at the Mt. Olivet cemetery.
