John Henry Lunow was born in Germany on September 2, 1871, and departed this life in Iowa City on Sunday, June 17th, 1951, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 15 days.

He was the only son of John Lunow and his wife Louise (nee) Burmeister. At the age of nine he came with his parents to America and spent the major part of his life thereafter in Cedar County.

On August 2, 1894, he was married to Miss Mary Dettmann and to this union three children were born. After almost 55 years of married life, the bonds of holy wedlock were broken by death, when Mrs. Lunow departed this life on July 18, 1949. One son Johnnie also preceded his father in death on February 14, 1940.

Mr. Lunow became ill on Thursday, June 7th, and was taken to the University hospital in Iowa City on Monday of last week, where he submitted to an operation.

He leaves to mourn his departure: 2 daughters, Mrs. Ella Sander and Mrs. Elsie Mericle both of Clarence; 5 grandchildren, Leeroy and Ellen Sander and Mrs. Gerald Hazeltine of Clarence; Everette Sander of Tipton and Mrs. Dorothy Adams of Phoenix, Pennsylvania; 3 greatgrandchildren and other more distant relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Chapman Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon, June 19,1951, at 1:30 o'clock conducted by Reverend F. J. Mittler. The music was furnished by Dorothy Claney and Anna Klatt with Helen Lane at the piano. Mitilda Harness and Alvina Telsrow were in charge of the floral pieces. Pallbearers were Fred Miller, Wm. Goldsmith, Paul Gottschalk, Henry Klatt, Ernest Conrad, Chris Kleppe.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
