Carl H. Schnabel was born on June 13, 1890, at Hampton, Iowa, to Charles and Friderika Hines Schnabel. He later moved with his parents to Sheffield, Iowa, where he lived until coming to the Clarence community 41 years ago.

Carl was received into the membership of the Lutheran church through the rite of Confirmation, and later transferred his membership to St. John's Church at Clarence where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of the Brotherhood.

On December 18, 1912, he was united in marriage with Amanda Goldsmith and this union was blessed with three children.

Mr. and Mrs. Schnabel resided on a farm near Clarence until 1946.

Mr. Schnabel passed away at his home on Sunday, August 24, 1952, at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 11 days.

Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Lawrence Conrad; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mrs. Minnie Hinken, Algona, Iowa; Mrs. Walter Storm, Altedena, Calif.; Mrs. C. E. Haxton, Waterloo, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lester who died in the service of his country; an infant daughter, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held from St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 1952, conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette and accompanied by Miss Eleanor Conrad. In charge of the many beautiful floral pieces were Mrs. Henry Dircks, Mrs. William Schroeder, Jr. and Mrs. Norman Goldsmith. The pallbearers were Wayne Goldsmith, Norman Goldsmith, Marvin Goldsmith, Norbert Goldsmith, Lloyd Hasselbusch and Charles Hinken.

Interment was made in St. John's cemetery.
