Elwood Scott Kirkpatrick was born October 30, 1865, to Moore and Anna Marie Kirkpatrick in Philadelphia, Penn.

He passed away on Thursday September 11, 1952, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 11 days, after a brief illness, at the home of his son Howard.

At the age of one year his parents moved to Jones county northeast of Clarence, where he grew to manhood and spent the rest of his life at farming, except for five years, when he lived in Clarence.

On July 11, 1890 he was married to Lucy Janette Vaughn of Wyoming, Iowa, who preceded him in death on October 12, 1945.

To this union were born three children, Howard and Elwood of Clarence and Mrs. Frank Hovey of Coon Rapids, Iowa.

He was an active member of the Dayton Valley Wesleyan Methodist church which he attended faithfully as long as he was able.

He is survived by his sons and a daughter, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Dayton Valley church on Saturday, September 13, 1952, at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Elsie Stephens officiating. Pallbearers were Ronald Kirkpatrick, Harry Carbaugh, Darrell Wilkey, Grover Benischek, John Christophersen and Kenneth Frink. Music was furnished by Mrs. Fred Sacora and Mrs. Hans Ahrendsen accompanied by Lyle Jeffrey. The many beautiful floral pieces were in charge of Mrs. Harry Feddersen and Mrs. Irwin Resewehr. Interment was made in the Dayton Valley cemetery.
