August H. Hansen was born December 23, 1874 in Germany, to Claus and Margaret Hellmann Hansen. He came to the United States with his parents when he was 7 years old.

On April 14, 1889, he received the rite of confirmation in Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church, Lowden, Iowa.

On October 11, 1900, he was united in marriage with Minnie Engelking and this union was blessed with four sons and one daughter. Mrs. Hansen entered into rest on September 22, 1931.

The Hansen family resided in the Clarence community until 1916 when they purchased a farm southwest of Stanwood. In 1944 Mr. Hansen moved to Stanwood.

After five months of illness Mr. Hansen suffered a stroke and passed away at the home of one of his sons, having attained the age of 77 years, 4 months and 29 days.

He leaves the following children to mourn his passing: Henry F., Elwood H., William C., of Stanwood; Carl D. Hansen of Lisbon and Margaret, Mrs. Ed. Griem of Clarence. Also six grandchildren and four sisters: Mrs. Gusta Gehrls, Lowden; Mrs. Emma Peters, Clarence; Mrs. Charles Kreinbring, Tipton; and Mrs. Alvina Bachman, Clarence. One brother Christ Hansen of Lowden.

One brother, William, preceded him in death.

Mr. Hansen was a member of St. John's Evangelical & Reformed Church of Clarence.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers at St. John's Evangelical & Reformed Church here in Clarence at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 1952. In charge of the many floral tributes were Mrs. Art Ropa and Mrs. Harold Babcock. Music was by a mixed quartette accompanied by Miss Eleanor Conrad. Pallbearers were: L. W. Meyer, Art Ropa, Earl McClellan, Carl Haesemeyer, Robert McClellan and Henry Ormsby.

Interment was made in the Clarence cemetery.
