Maud Struck 1879-1953

Maud Reid was born June 10, 1879 in Lowden, one of the twin daughters of James P. and Harriet Wiggins Reid. She grew up in the Lowden community where she attended the public schools and graduated in the first graduating class from the Lowden school. She taught school for a short time until ill health closed that career. Always active in church work she became a member of the First Methodist church of Tipton during a few years residence in that town in the early 1900's.

On December 20th, 1919 she was married to David L. Simpson in Tipton. They farmed near Clarence, Olin and Lisbon forming many lasting friendships in those communities. He died on February 4th, 1938. During the years following she spent much time in the homes of her brothers, Del in Cedar Rapids and Charles in Tipton.

On November 21, 1945 she married Edward R. Struck in Tipton. They lived in Tipton, except for a short time in Mechanicsville, the past seven years until his death on October 28, 1952.

Mrs. Struck died early Wednesday morning, September 9th, 1953 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids where she had been taken following a stroke on Tuesday afternoon from which she did not regain consciousness.

Surviving Mrs. Struck are two brothers, A. P. Reid of Lowden and J. G. Reid of Santa Cruz, Calif., fifteen nieces and nephews beside many other relatives.

In addition to her parents, two husbands, her twin sister, Mabel who died in infancy, she was preceded in death by other twin sisters, Jessie Struck and Margaret Reid and four brothers.

At the time of her death Mrs. Stuck was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its service guild and of the Order of Eastern Star, all in Tipton.

Funeral services were conducted at the Sheets & Dahn Funeral home in Tipton Friday afternoon, September 11th, 1953, with Rev. Raymon Ferguson pastor of her church officiating. Burial was in Red Oak Cemetery with nephews D. O. Reid, Max Thumma, Warren Berg, Darrell Shriver, George D. Shriver and Paul Leinbaugh as pallbearers. Olivette Werling and Joanne Thumma were in charge of flowers.

At the time of her passing she had reached the age of 74 years and 3 months.
