George Howard, another of Cedar county's pioneer residents, passed to his eternal home Tuesday evening at about 9:30 o'clock. Mr. Howard, who had arrived at the age of 79 years, had been at the home of his brother John several days for care during his illness. His health had not been the best for practically a year.

Mr. Howard's entire life was spent in the Cedar Bluff community where he will be greatly missed by his old friends. He is survived by his widow and five children, Robert, Ethel and Mrs. Mae Lehman of West Branch, Mrs. Minnie Sailor of Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Josephine Hessel of Garnavillo; also one brother, John Howard.

Funeral services are being conducted this afternoon at the Cedar Bluff church, the Rev. J. W. Reed of Tipton in charge, with interment in Evergreen cemetery.

George Howard, eldest son of a family of six children was born to Mr. and Mrs. Z. Howard, was born in Gower township, Cedar county, Iowa, May 14, 1853. He passed away March 15, 1932, at the age of 78 years, ten months and one day. All his life was spent in the Cedar Bluff neighborhood. July 24, 1872, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Lippincott and to this union were born six children, all of whom survive with the exception of Fred, who passed from this life March 22, 1926. Surviving are one brother, John Z. Howard of Cedar Bluffs, his widow, Rebecca Howard, five children: Mrs. M. J. Lehman of West Branch, Mrs. John Sailor of Cedar Bluffs, Mrs. F. W. Hessel of Garnavillo, and Robert and Ethel at home; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
