12 March 1953 - The Clarence Sun

Mrs. Anna Flansburg was born to Johnson and Elizabeth Spear on September 17, 1872, on a farm near Clarence. Her entire life of 80 years was spent in or near this community. She passed away quietly in her home on Sunday, March 8, 1953, after being incapacitated for several days with a serious illness. At the time of her passing she had attained the age of 80 years, 5 months and 21 days.

She had taught in the public school for two years before her marriage to Clark Flansburg on September 17, 1895. She had been a member of The Methodist Church of Clarence since February 9, 1896, having transferred her membership from a community church at Harmony Point. She had taught Sunday School classes for a total of 38 years. Her loyalty to all phases of the church program is well known among us.

Mrs. Flansburg was a charter member of the Harmony Point Aid Society. The first meeting was held in her home in December of 1899. At a meeting in 1949 she was presented with a gold pin by the members in honor of fifty years of membership. She had expressed a desire that, instead of giving flowers at her passing, the Aid Society should give a gift to the Christian Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a home for children in which she was vitally interested. Respecting her wish the society is sending $10 to the Christian Home in her memory.

Mrs. Flansburg had known almost twenty years of lonely widowhood, her husband having passed away on March 17, 1932. She was also preceded in death by a brother, T. A. Spear, and two sisters, Bessie, an infant, and Mrs. Jennie McClellan. She is survived by a neice, Mrs. Glenn Kelly of Clarence and a nephew, Harry Spear of Tipton.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Clarence at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10th, 1953, conducted by Rev. A. D. Holtry who was assisted by Elder U. J. Fike. The music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Fike who were accompanied by Mrs. Paul Wingerd. In charge of the flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Kelly. Pallbearers were John Bixler, Fred Luikart, Robert Joslin, Howard McClellan, Elmer Sawyer and Clarence Stonerook.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
