Mrs. William Schroeder, nee Maria Klatt, was born November 15, 1878, at Gletzow, Germany, to John and Anna Klatt, nee Hinrichs.

She was a member of the first confirmation class of St. John's Church, having received this rite on March 26, 1893.

Mrs. Schroeder came to this country from Germany with her parents in September 1881 and spent her entire life in this community. Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder have made their home in the town of Clarence since November 1946.

The deceased passed away at the family home on January 15, 1953, having reached the age of 74 years, and 2 months.

She was a member of St. John's Church, the Women's Guild, and Kings Daughters Circle.

Surviving is her husband, four sons, William, Jr., August and Elmer of Clarence and Hugo of Lowden; two daughters: Milda, Mrs. Wm. Geadelmann, Edna, Mrs. Herman Schwien; also eleven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Wm. Hasenbank and one brother, John Klatt all of Clarence.

One sister and one brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 1953, conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers. Music was by the mixed quartette of the church accompanied by Eleanor Conrad at the organ. In charge of the many beautiful floral tributes were Mrs. Edwin Meyer, Mrs. Henry Klatt and Mrs. Walter Kreinbring. Pallbearers were Herman Gehrls, Frank Decker, Otto Kahl, John Hasenbank, William Brinkman and Julius Bergmann.

Interment was made in St. John's Cemetery.
