26 January 1912 - The Lowden News

William Lewis Winter was born July 17, 1854, near Union Bridge, Carroll county, Maryland, and died at his home in Clarence, Jan. 18th, 1912, aged 57 years 6 months and 1 day.

There survive to mourn his loss two brothers and two sisters: David, of Union Bridge, Maryland; Samuel, of Lowden, Iowa; Mrs. A. L. Beard of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. W. E. Robinson, of Clarence, Iowa; also several near relatives and a host of friends.

He came to Lowden, Cedar county, Iowa, in the fall of 1874 where he engaged in farming for a number of years. At one time he, with his brother Samuel, lived in Fairfield township on the farm now owned by O. A. Stonerook.

Billy, as he was called, was of a jovial disposition, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed.

He was never married.

About four years ago he came to Clarence and bought a home where he lived alone up to the time of his death.

His funeral was held on Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the M. E. church, conducted by Eld. John Zuck, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Clarence cemetery.
