Elizabeth Selinda Behrend, was born on July 21, 1878 at West Point, Iowa, to Frederick and Wilhelmina Martzhan, nee Lietz.

When a small child she came with her parents to Cedar County where she resided the rest of her life time.

On December 10, 1895, she was united in marriage with August Behrend, and this union was blessed with one son, Herbert. Mr. Behrend passed away on September 2, 1939.

Mrs. Behrend entered into rest on November 22, 1954, having reached the age of 76 years, 4 months and 1 day.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her son Herbert and wife of Clarence; 1 sister, Mrs. Lena Borschel, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces and nephews, and many friends. Two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Behrend was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Women's Guild, and Royal Neighbors of America.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers at the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church on Friday, November 26th, 1954, at 1:30 p.m. The music was furnished by Norman Goldsmith and Walter Geadelmann being accompanied at the church organ by Eleanor Conrad. In charge of the many beautiful floral tributes were Mrs. Dale Hines and Mrs. Melvin Riedesel. Pallbearers were Vern Freeman, Arthur Kemmann, Paul Hartwig, John Feddersen, Daniel Stock and August Dresden.

Interment was made in the Clarence cemetery.
