Mrs. Sadie Mae Wilson Merritt, a daughter of Kelly and Etta Faye Wilson, was born on November 28, 1879 at Dixon, Iowa, and she departed this life at the Woode Nursing Home in Tipton, Iowa on Saturday, October 16, 1954 at the mature age of 74 years, 10 months and 18 days. She had been in declining health for several years.

She was united in marriage to Casper Allen Merritt at Calamus, Iowa, on September 30, 1900. Two sons were born to this union, both of whom survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Merritt farmed in the vicinity of Calamus until they moved to Clarence on November 3, 1911. She spent the remainder of her life in Clarence.

Mr. Merritt preceded her in death on November 8, 1952.

Many will remember Mrs. Merritt as a mother who was completely devoted to her family and home.

Surviving to mourn her passing are her two sons, Wayne of Clarence and Owen of Bennett; five grandchildren, Glenn Merritt of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Eugene McCaw and Lee Merritt of Clarence, Pvt. Dale Merritt of the U.S. Marine Corps now stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and Duane Merritt of Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Colleen and Mark Merritt of Cedar Rapids; one brother, James Wilson of Tipton, and other more distant relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted in the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence at 1 o'clock and in The Methodist Church at 1:30 o'clock on Monday afternoon, October 18, 1943 by the Reverend Forrest E. Flowers. The music was furnished by Mrs. Marvin Schilling, organist. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Henry Klatt and Mrs. Henry Von Muenster. Pallbearers were: Henry Klatt, Henry Von Muenster, Fred Bentrott, John Hunwardsen, Walter Hartwig and Herman Hunwardsen.

Interment was made in the Clarence cemetery.
