1 April 1954 - The Clarence Sun

William Henry Resewuehr, the son of Frederick Resewuehr and his wife Louise Dietz, was born on May 30, 1873, in Mecklenberg, Germany, and was baptized shortly after birth.

Mr. Resewuehr had been in declining health for a number of years and was bedfast the last two years. Although he was in delicate health, his death was unexpected. His soul took flight to its heavenly home on Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 1954. He had attained an age of 80 years, 9 months and 22 days.

In 1882, at the age of nine he, with his family, came to the United States. They settled in Davenport for about one year. He then came to the Mechanicsville vicinity where he worked on a farm for a year. Moving to Clarence he worked in the neighborhood until his marriage.

On December 9, 1897 he was united in marriage with Amelia Lange at Lowden, by the Rev. J. H. Brammer. They made their home 1 1/2 miles east of Clarence where he began farming for himself. Later he farmed at Stanwood for some six years and at Mechanicsville for another 6 years. From there they returned to the Clarence vicinity where he farmed until 1939.

Shortly after the death of Mrs. Resewuehr on August 7, 1938 he moved to the home of a son in Clarence where he lived until his departure.

Mr. Resewuehr was one of the first members of St. Paul's congregation. He was confirmed by the Rev. J. H. Brammer on April 14, 1889, at Lowden. He was active in the work of his church and served as a trustee for a number of years.

He leaves to mourn his passing 4 sons: Elmer, Leo and Irwin of Clarence and Harold; one brother, John of Clarence; two sisters Mrs. Louise Busch of Ellendale, North Dakota and Mrs. Fred Feddersen of Clarence; two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Stanwood at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 27th, 1954 by Rev. Melvin R. Giffert. The music was furnished by the men's chorus and were accompanied by Emil Licht. In charge of the many beautiful floral pieces were Mrs. Ray Steege and Mrs. Walter Hartwig. Pallbearers were: Harry Sievers, Dick Gallmeyer, Ray Steege, Chris Kroemer, John Ibsen and Herman Lehrman.

Interment was made in the Stanwood cemetery.
