Fred Koch was born February 27, 1876 at Lesse, Germany, to Dietrich and Dorothea Reinking Koch.

Mr. Koch came to the United States when he was sixteen years old. Until his retirement, he was engaged in farming in the Clarence community.

On December 5, 1901, he was united in marriage with Minnie Keseberg who passed away October 5, 1950. This union was blessed with seven children.

Mr. Koch passed away December 20, 1954, at Davenport, Iowa, having reached the age of 78 years, 9 months and 23 days.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, and Mt. Hope Lodge A.F. & A.M.

Surviving are the following children: Arnold Koch, Adel, Iowa; Mrs. Louise Powell, Ogden, Iowa; Elmer Koch, Clinton, Iowa; Mrs. Norma Huber, Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Dorothy Claney, Clarence, Iowa; and Fredrick Koch, Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Also there are 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, a brother, Karl Koch, Lesse, Germany.

His wife, 1 child and 3 brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Clarence at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 1954, with Rev. Edward J. Bowers conducting the service. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette it being accompanied at the church organ by Miss Eleanor Conrad. In charge of the many beautiful floral tributes were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Meier and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Geadelmann. Pallbearers were Robert Kelly, Lester Kelly, Glen Kelly, Willard Russell, Frank Miller and Richard Kintzel.

Masonic services were held conducted by Wm. H. Field.

Interment was in St. John's Cemetery east of Clarence.
