Chester W. Rouse was born on March 8, 1892 at Fairmont, Minn., to Clara Gould Rouse and Fred Rouse and passed away at the V. A. hospital in Iowa City, Iowa on April 28, 1955, after being in that hospital for the most part of eight months. His passing was attributed to cancer and a large memorial fund was turned over to the American Cancer Society.

At the time of his passing he had reached the age of 63 years, 1 month and 19 days.

Mr. Rouse who was a well driller by trade became a resident in the Clarence community about eight years ago, coming here from Oxford Junction. He was also a World War I veteran.

Mr. Rouse was married in August of 1919 to Flossie Roll who passed away that same year in November.

His second marriage to his lifes partner Florence F. Gerlich was solmonized on January 17, 1921, and to this union were born ten children who survive.

He is survived by his wife, Florence F. Rouse, Chester Rouse Jr. of Clarence; Clara Anne, Mrs. Wayne Goldsmith of Lowden; Mary, Mrs. H. L. Brinkman of Wyoming; Betty, Mrs. John Christophersen of Clarence; Raymond, Orman, Michael, John, Jeanne and Gladys all at home and 11 grandchildren along with three sisters, Mrs. Charles Ashbaugh of Rushmore, Minn; Charlotte Rouse of Verndale, Minn.; Gladys Rouse of Welcome, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Mrs. Victor Larson of Ceylon, Minn.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, Iowa at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 1955, being conducted by Father H. Frencken. The music was furnished by the church choir with Mattie Kayler, organist. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Ronald Harness, Mrs. Henry Klatt and Mrs. Donald Bachman. Pallbearers were Otto Lasack, Robert Mizaur, Stanley Coon, Arthur Wernimont, Lowell Smothers and Donald Pruess.

Interment was made at the Clarence Cemetery where graveside Military Rites were conducted by Victory Post No. 286 of the American Legion.
