Edward Wilkening was born September 13, 1884, at Lowden, Iowa, son of Henry and Louise Miller Wilkening.

He was baptized and confirmed in Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church at Lowden.

On December 11, 1907, he was married to Anna Conrad and this union was blessed with two children.

Mr. Wilkening was engaged in farming until he and Mrs. Wilkening moved to Clarence in 1946.

Ed passed away on Monday, October 22, 1956, at the home of his daughter, having reached the age of 72 years, 1 month and 9 days.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Brotherhood -- and he served as Custodian of St. John's Church for the past 10 years. He had also served as a member of the Church Council.

Survivors are his wife Anna, one daughter, Rowena, Mrs. Victor Andresen; a grand-daughter, Sally Jo Andresen; a sister, Mrs. George Miller of Lowden; and two brothers, Paul and Hugo Wilkening, both of Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Elmer, and one brother Julius.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 1956. The music was furnished by a mixed quartet with Karen Geadelmann at the organ. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Ella Jacobs and Mrs. Leona Hasselbusch. Pallbearers were Dwain Wilkening, Harold Wilkening, Raymond Conrad, Lawrence Conrad, Arnold Conrad and Arnold Miller.

Burial was made at the Van Horne Cemetery south of Lowden.
