Frieda May Clemmens, daughter of Carl and Sophia Sanders Hoffmeister, was born at Wheatland, Iowa on March 25, 1877, and she departed this life at her home in Clarence, Iowa on May 22, 1956 at the mature age of 79 years, 1 month and 27 days.

She was united in marriage to Jerome Clemmens at Lowden, Iowa on September 4, 1901. Four sons and six daughters were born to this union. Mr. Clemmens passed away on October 23, 1949.

She lived her entire life in the Wheatland, Lowden and Clarence communities.

Mrs. Clemmens was a member of The Methodist Church in Clarence and of its Woman's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving to mourn her passing are her three daughters: Mrs. Essie Liercke of Clarence, Mrs. Gladys Countryman of Wyoming, and Mrs. Ethel Gordon of Olin; and her four sons, Lester, Thomas and Melvin, all of Clarence and James of Cedar Rapids, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three daughters, two half-brothers and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in The Methodist Church in Clarence, Iowa at 2 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, May 24, 1956 by the Reverend Forrest E. Flowers. Music was provided by Mesdames Dorothy Claney and Anna Klatt who sang "Ivory Palaces" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Robert Joslin at the organ. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Howard Blake and Mrs. Donald Bixler. Pallbearers were: Harry Schoff, Francis Schoff, Jack Shriver, Wm. Schoff, Harold Kinney and Raymond Clemmens.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
