8 March 1956 - The Clarence Sun

William Henry Stanlake, was born at Clarence, Iowa, on June 25, 1860, son of Robert and Mary Gibson Stanlake, and passed away at the family home on Thursday, March 1, 1956, having reached the age of 95 years, 8 months and 6 days.

In January 1882, he was united in marriage with Hattie Rogers and this union was blessed with nine children.

Mr. Stanlake spent his entire lifetime in the Clarence community. Following his retirement from farming, he worked as caretaker at the Clarence Cemetery.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Elma Burns, Alexandria, South Dakota; Miss Carrie Stanlake, Clarence; Mrs. Frank Ruckman, Shelby, Ohio. Four sons: Robert of Clarence; Willie of Oxford Junction; Elmer of Wheatland; and Charles of Tipton. Also 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter Marjorie Langschwager, and one son, Elwood.

Funeral services were held at the Chapman Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 1956, being conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. Music was furnished by Mrs. Anna Klatt and Mrs. Dorothy Claney accompanied by Mrs. Mildred Joslin. Pallbearers were Henry Klatt, Durwood Greig, Merle Sylvester, Grover Penningroth, Wayne Merritt and Arthur Dircks.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery where graveside Masonic service were conducted by Mt. Hope Lodge No. 501 of Clarence.
