2 August 1912 - The Lowden News

Fred Herman Andresen was born at Davenport, Iowa, on March 5, 1886. In 1892 he moved to Chicago with his parents and resided there the greater part of his life. In the spring of the year 1910 he became ill with Bright's disease, and though the best of medical aid was sought it was of no avail. Last Friday he suddenly took sick, the length of this illness being only a few days, as on Sunday July 2, he quietly passed away. He reached the age of 26 years, 4 months and 23 days.

On September 7, 1910, he became united in marriage to Miss Mary Proctor of Chicago. The happiness of the young couple was soon turned to sorrow, when a sister of Fred was claimed by the Angel of Death. Hardly had the wound been healed, when his dearly beloved mother passed into the Far Beyond and the devoted son was truly heart-broken. It caused his health to fail very quickly and the doctors advised a trip to a warmer climate; so the new year of 1912 found them in Texas, but alas, the ever prevalent malaria claimed the poor sufferer as a victim and he was obliged to return home to Chicago. He gradually regained his strength and becoming interested in Christian Science he experienced a wonderful change for the better. However, a sudden chill during the warm weather hastened his untimely demise and he is now reunited with those dear ones who have gone before him to the Land of Peace.

The remains of the deceased were sent from Chicago to Lowden and arrived here Wednesday on the afternoon flyer accompanied by the sorrowing widow, her mother and brother-in-law of Chicago, and Hans brother of the departed, of Lowden, who had gone to Chicago in answer to a message received last Sunday. The funeral services were held at the Hans Andresen home here Wednesday afternoon at about 3 o'clock. On account of the absence of Rev. Werning, Rev. Hansen of Clarence officiated. He spoke beautifully and consolingly to the sorrowing widow and brother. The choir composed of Chas. H. Reid, Paul Kemmann, Elizabeth Heiner and Emma Werning rendered very beautiful singing. The floral pieces were many and very beautiful. The pall bearers were Fred Pauls, Theodore Spoo, Emil Dircks, Otto Pancratz, H. F. Pancratz, Jay Henry. The body was laid to rest in the Lowden cemetery in the Andresen family lot by the side of those who have gone before him to the Great Beyond.

There live to survive him his young sorrowing widow, one brother, Hans, of Lowden, and two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Fuermann, of Munich, Germany, and Mrs. Elsa Matthael, of Seattle, Wash., and many other relatives.
