24 April 1957 - The Clarence Sun

Mary Louise Van Wormer, loving known as Minnie, was born on a farm north of Clarence on June 5, 1866. She had spent her whole life in this community, a life which came to an end peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 1957, at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 13 days.

After attending schools in Dayton Township and in Clarence, she began the task of creating a home.

On February 27, 1884, she was married to John Bauman. To this union was born eight children, four of whom have preceded her in death, Alice, Margaret Yock, Ray and John. Four children remain to mourn her passing, Homer of Galva, Iowa, Wilbur of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Jessie of Clarence, and Florence Ruther of Des Moines, Iowa.

She was also preceded in death by her husband John and one brother Homer.

There are nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren who will feel the passing of this life.

She united early in life with the German Reformed Church, transferring later to the Clarence Presbyterian Church. When that Church closed she united with the Clarence Methodist Church in 1946.

In the above we have given all of the vital statistics but how much more we might add. Each of her friends would want to add a word of devoted friendship. Each member of her family would want to add many experiences. But none could leave out of this the patience with which she bore her handicap for after a hip injury 17 years ago, she was been confined to a wheel chair. Whether or not she ever uttered the words of Paul, "Not that I complain of want; for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content", we know it was her philosophy. Her many friends and her family will attest to this fact.

The funeral services were held at Chapman's Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 1957, being conducted by Rev. Cyril Ashton, pastor of the Methodist Church. The music was furnished by Anna Klatt and Dorothy Claney with Mildred Joslin as the accompanist. In charge of the floral tributes were Ione Cashman and Dorothy Kreinbring. Pallbearers were Ellis Bauman, Emmertt Bauman, Rex Ruther, Wm. Von Muenster, Robert Yock and Robert Von Muenster.

Interment was made in the Clarence cemetery.
