Henry Fred Hoffner Sr. was born June 19, 1879 at Clarence, Iowa, son of John and Mary Lehrman Hoffner.

On April 4, 1900, he was united in marriage with Frieda Stoeter.

Mr. Hoffner passed away on January 27, 1957, having reached the age of 77 years, 7 months and 8 days. His entire life was spent in the Clarence community.

He leaves to mourn his passing the following children: John Hoffner, Clarence; Sopha Hoffner, Cedar Rapids; Marie Luettejohann, Swisher; Edward Hoffner, Cedar Rapids; Henry Hoffner, Jr., Clarence; Alfred Hoffner, Burbank, Calif.; George Hoffner, Clarence; Charles Hoffner, US Navy; Neil Hoffner, Clarence; Dorothy Hoffner, Tipton; Donald Hoffner, Cedar Rapids; Geraldine Aegerter, Center Point; August Hoffner, Tipton. Also a sister, Emma Frost of Wichita, Kansas; 2 brothers, Fred and Alfred of Clarence; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

His wife, two sons and one daughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church on Wednesday, January 30, 1957, at 1:30 p.m., being conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers. The music was furnished by a mixed quartet with Karen Geadelmann as organist. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Wm. Schroeder, Jr. and Mrs. Richard Hulse. The pallbearers were Otto Kahl, Richard Hulse, Wilfred Pruess, Arthur Robinson, Frank Quinn and Wm. Schroeder, Jr.

Ingterment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
