William Nelson Claney was born on January 4, 1891 at Stanwood Iowa to William E and Jessie Imrie Claney and died at his home in Clarence on December 28th, 1956, at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 24 days.

He was married on March 11, 1911 to Mildred Louise Oetting at Marion, Iowa. They made their home here in Clarence where he spent his time farming, moving a few years ago to town.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one brother Ward Claney. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Louise Claney, two sons, Howard and Arthur, two grandsons, Donald and Dean, one granddaughter, Kathryn and one great grandson, Michael, all of Clarence. There is one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Spahn of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mr. Claney was well known here so that our memories will tell us far more than we can write concerning him in this brief account of his life. Memories are the thoughts that shall be constant in our relationships with this man.

He united with the Methodist Church of Clarence October 30th 1927 under the pastorate of the Rev. J. W. Bearse.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Sunday, December 30th, 1956, being conducted by Rev. Cyril Ashton. The music was furnished by Mrs. Eugene McCaw soloist and Mrs. Robert Joslin, organist. In charge of the many beautiful floral tributes were Mrs. John Greig and Mrs. Anna Budelier. Pallbearers were John Greig, Frank Miller, Glen Tenley, Willard Russell, Homer Burgess and J. E. Shriver.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
